Typical Evaluation Process

We know that having your child evaluated can feel overwhelming, especially if you're not sure what to expect.

Our process is designed to be thorough, thoughtful, and supportive, giving you meaningful insights while keeping your child’s comfort in mind. From the initial intake to the final feedback, each step helps us build a complete picture of your child’s strengths and challenges. When helpful, we also include observations in natural settings and offer follow-up consultations to support your next steps. Below, you’ll find an overview of each part of the evaluation process.

Intake

The process begins with a virtual caregiver interview, where we learn more about your child’s development, strengths, challenges, and the concerns bringing you to us. This helps us design a personalized evaluation plan that fits your child’s needs.

When helpful, we observe your child in a real-world setting like school, camp, or daycare. This allows us to better understand how they interact, learn, and manage emotions in their everyday environment.

Evaluation Day

Your child visits our office for a day of one-on-one testing. Depending on your child’s needs, we assess areas like thinking and learning skills, academic abilities, attention, memory, and emotional functioning. Testing typically lasts 3–6 hours, with breaks built in to keep your child comfortable and engaged.

Feedback

After the evaluation, we meet virtually with caregivers to review results, explain what we learned, and discuss next steps. We’ll go over your child’s strengths and challenges in clear, accessible language and provide tailored recommendations.
