Assessment

We provide general or targeted pediatric neuropsychological evaluations depending on your concerns. A full evaluation has three main parts, an optional observation, and the potential for post-evaluation involvement.

  1. Intake (Virtual). We begin with a 60-minute parent interview to gain an understanding of your child’s background and the history of your concerns. This interview is designed to gather information about your child’s developmental history to help us understand your family and your child. We will plan our approach for the subsequent evaluation together. In addition, questionnaires are sent to your child’s school for completion.

  2. Assessment (Newton Office). This visit lasts anywhere between 3-6 hours. Your child will come to our office to participate in a variety of assessments. Assessments cover domains including IQ, memory, executive functioning, visual-spatial/motor, language, social, mood, and anxiety. This period will include a lunch break and bathroom breaks. If needed, the day can be split into two visits. At the end of this assessment, we can often give some general feedback, but we will need to schedule a time for the final component of the evaluation.

  3. Observation (Site Visit). We will visit your child’s school or an activity of your choosing for 60-minutes to discretely observe without any interaction. This component is optional.

  4. Feedback (Newton Office or Virtual). During this 60-minute visit, your clinician will provide diagnoses, recommendations, and explain the results based on data collected from your child’s performance on testing. This is an open conversation and you are encouraged to ask questions and discuss the findings. Your child may attend this meeting if you like. Depending on the child’s age, we can discuss what information you would like to be shared with them and how. We also offer a two-part feedback, one with and one without the child present.

  5. Post-evaluation involvement. Our clinicians can attend IEP meetings or other school meetings if you would like. During these meetings, we explain evaluation findings and suggested accommodations at the school.

Insurance

Currently, The Center for Pediatric Neurodiversity ("CFPN") does not accept insurance for assessment or therapy services. Instead, clients can request a superbill to submit to your insurance. Since each insurance company is different in its mental/behavioral health coverage, CFPN highly recommends that you contact your insurance agency prior to your first session to inquire about your out-of-network coverage. Insurance reimbursement is a contract between you and your carrier therefore CFPN does not accept responsibility for collecting an insurance claim or negotiating a disputed claim if the company fails to reimburse you.
