Our Approach

What is Neurodiversity? This term is used to describe the range of differences in how our brains work socially, cognitively, and emotionally. It is the idea that each of our brains is different, and that variation is normal. Because our society largely caters to those who are considered “neurotypical,” people who do not fit that mold may struggle to function without specific supports at different points in their lives. Diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism, and other Learning Disabilities are used to designate individuals with more diverse brain function.

The most effective accommodations in schools and communities strive to support and modify the environment around neurodiverse individuals, rather than focusing only on modifying the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of the individuals themselves. That is why, in addition to traditional neuropsychological testing, we at the Center for Pediatric Neurodiversity rely heavily on collateral data to understand your child from a holistic perspective.

In our therapy sessions, the goal is to equip parents with the skills and strategies to effectively manage and improve their child's well-being. Through a collaborative approach, psychologists work closely with parents to identify the underlying causes of challenges and implement child- and family-centered interventions. The primary goals of this training are to understand and treat the child's behavior, strengthen the parent-child relationship, and empower parents to use effective strategies to help their children. By focusing on these goals within a supportive and tailored framework, parent training ensures that interventions are sustainable and effective in achieving long-term improvements in both your child and in family dynamics.

How We Can Help

Neuropsychological Evaluations

We pair traditional neuropsychological evaluation with on-site observation such as school, home, or other activities.  We also rely on extensive communication with other people in your child’s life such as teachers, friends, and family, to enrich our understanding of your child in different contexts. The traditional neuropsychological evaluation can also include the evaluation of academic achievement.

Therapy

We generally focus on therapy services delivered via parent training. This method involves educating and equipping parents with the skills and strategies necessary to manage and improve their child's behavior. Through structured sessions, psychologists guide parents in understanding the underlying causes of their child's behavior and implementing strategies for change.

Consultation

Have a psychologist from our team visit your child's school to perform an observation. During the observation, the psychologist carefully monitors your child in their natural school setting to gather valuable insights that inform the assessment process or to personalized intervention strategies in therapy.

We also attend Yearly IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meetings to ensure your child receives the most appropriate and effective educational support.
